Megadeth同Anthrax,Slayer和Metallica并称为"Big Four of Thrash"乐队。这支乐队至今已经发行了11张录音室专辑，6张现场专辑，2张EP以及2张精选专辑，曾获得葛莱美奖提名。
乐队成立之后成员变动频繁，2002年，Dave Mustaine的左臂受伤，使得乐队一度解散过，但经过治疗之后，乐队在2004年又重新成立并发行新专辑The System Has Failed,2007年乐队又发行了新专辑United Abominations,2009年发行新专辑Endgame.2011年发布新专辑Th1rt3en。

1988年1月19日，Megadeth发行第3张专辑So Far,So Good... So What!,专辑中的"In My Darkest Hour"是为了纪念因车祸去世的Metallica贝斯手，同时也是Dave Mustaine的好友Cliff Burton的，Megadeth此后的现场几乎都会演唱"In My Darkest Hour".在这专辑里Megadeth还翻唱了Sex Pistols的"Anarchy in the UK".
1988年6月，Megadeth出现在Penelope Spheeris的记录片The Decline of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years的结束部分，这部记录片主要讲述了洛衫矶地区的重金属发展情况，不过大部份是介绍Glam Metal的.
在新专辑发行不久，Megadeth开始準备So Far,So Good...巡演，1988年2月在欧洲为Dio开场，此后加入 Iron Maiden的Seventh Son of a Seventh Son北美夏季巡演.
1988年8月，在英国Castle Donnington的Monsters of Rock摇滚节，Megadeth同Kiss,Iron Maiden,Guns N' Roses和David Lee Roth同台，现场观众超过10万人，Megadeth原本完成Monsters of Rock欧洲巡演的，但最终在英国这一场演出后退出，并且开除Chuck Behler和Jeff Young以及取消澳大利亚的巡演.
1989年7月，Nick Menza加入乐队成为新鼓手，但这时候依然没有找到吉他手，只有3个人的Megadeth翻录了Alice Cooper的"No More Mr. Nice Guy,被收录在Wes Craven的电影Shocker原声带中，Dave Mustaine这期间又因超速驾驶被捕并且发现吸毒，接受强制戒毒.
Rust In Peace
1990年2月，Marty Friedman加入Megadeth,Marty Friedman的加入，使得Megadeth重新焕发活力，在製作人Mike Clink的帮助下，1990年9月24日，乐队发行了里程碑式新专辑Rust in Peace,日后证明这张专辑是Megadeth最为成功的专辑之一，在1990年的The Billboard 200上最高排到第23名，获得1991到1992年度格莱美 Best Metal Performance提名.
同时，在9月份Megadeth与Slayer,Testament和Suicidal Tendencies一同进行"Clash of the Titans"的欧洲巡演，并给Judas Priest的Painkiller巡演开场.1991年1月，Megadeth参加了在巴西的Rock in Rio II,现场观众达到14万了人！5月，"Clash of the Titans"巡演在美国展开，连同还有Slayer和，Anthrax,Alice in Chains为其开场.7月，单曲"Go To Hell"被收录在电影Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey原声带中，"Breakpoint" 也被Super Mario Bros原声带收录，1991年，Megadeth还发行了第1部家庭录影带Rusted Pieces,里面是一些MV以及乐队的介绍等等.
Countdown to Extinction
1992年1月，Megadeth进入位于加州Burbank的Enterprise录音室，开始录製新专辑，该专辑的製作人是Max Norman,乐队花了4个月完成了新专辑，名为Countdown to Extinction,在1992年7月14日发行，这张专辑获得更大的成功，在1992年的The Billboard 200上最高排到了第2,值得一提的是，这张专辑，乐队四个成员全部参与了创作.1992年11月，发行第2张家庭录影带Exposure of a Dream.
1992年12月，Megadeth开始Countdown to Extinction世界巡演，Pantera和Suicidal Tendencies加入该巡演中来.1993年1月则和Stone Temple Pilots一同巡演，不过在美国巡演后，剩下的行程计画取消了，包括去日本的巡演.
1993年6月，Megadeth作为嘉宾出现在Metallica的Milton Keynes Bowl Festival上，这是10年中，第一次和Metallica同台.7月，加入Aerosmith的Get A Grip全美巡演，由于契约上的一些争端，仅仅7天后就退出巡演.在取消巡演后，乐队开始录製单曲"99 Ways to Die",之后收录在 The Beavis and Butt-Head Experience中，在1995年获得格莱美Best Metal Performance提名.
Youthanasia
为了录製这张专辑，Megadeth前前后后一共换了8个录音室，不过最后还顺利发行了，Youthanasia在1994年11月1日发行，在Billboard Top 200上排第4.Megadeth还翻唱了"Paranoid",被收录在Nativity in Black,这是一张向Black Sabbath致敬的专辑，凭藉这首于1996年获得格莱美Best Metal Performance提名.
9月开始全球巡演.在欧洲部分是和Iron Maiden一起的，不过这时候乐队极为重要的吉他手Marty Friedman退出Megadeth.Dave Mustaine说："我对Marty Friedman说，我们在Risk巡演结束后，我们重新玩金属，可是Marty Friedman却退出乐队了."Marty Friedman离开之后，在2000年1月，Al Pitrelli加入乐队，顶替Marty Friedman,曾是Savatage,Alice Cooper吉他手.并且之后翻唱了Black Sabbath的"Never Say Die",被收录在向黑色安息日致敬专辑Nativity in Black II: A Tribute to Black Sabbath中.
4月，Megadeth进入录音室，不过没多久，便和Anthrax和Motley Crue一起进行Maximum Rock" 巡演，所以录新专辑也搁浅了下来.10月，离开呆了14年的Capitol Records,以一张精选专辑Capitol Punishment: The Megadeth Years作为在Capitol Records的终点.
The World Needs a Hero
2000年11月，Megadeth加入Sanctuary Records.2001年5月15日发行新专辑The World Needs a Hero,在继Risk的失败之后，乐队又重新回到原有的风格。此后开始了巡演.夏天在欧洲同AC/DC一起，9月和Iced Earth以及Endo在北美巡演，由于9.11事件,剩余的巡演被削减了，包括原计画在阿根廷录製DVD现场的，最后只好在Arizona州的两晚现场来代替，即之后的Rude Awakening,这是Megadeth首张现场专辑以及现场DVD.2002年2月，经过重新混音的Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!再版，相比首版的音质要好多了.3月19日，现场专辑Rude Awakening发行.4月3日，Dave Mustaine左臂因患上Saturday Night Palsy(周末夜臂麻痹症候群)导致不能弹琴，宣布Megadeth解散，Dave Mustaine随之进行治疗，通过物理治疗，Dave的手臂有所好转.
2002年9月10日，发行一张精选专辑Still Alive... And Well?该专辑的封面是一个墓碑，上面刻着1985-2002,前6首是现场(2001年11月7日在凤凰城Web Theatre).
The System Has Failed
经过1年多的治疗，Dave Mustaine的左臂明显好转了，期间对Megadeth从前的专辑进行了重新混音.2004年5月，Dave Mustaine开始进入录音室，Dave Mustaine原本想自己单干的，但是与唱片公司还有契约，于是Dave Mustaine决定重组Megadeth来发行新专辑，但是新Megadeth的成员全部换了，此前一直在乐队的David Ellefson 也离开了，Dave Mustaine召集了原来的吉他手Chris Poland,贝斯Jimmy Sloas以及鼓手Vinnie Colaiuta一起录製了新专辑The System Has Failed,该专辑在2004年9月14日发行.10月份，Dave Mustaine决定开始Blackmail the Universe巡演，为了巡演，Dave Mustaine招募了贝斯手James MacDonough(Iced Earth),Glen Drover(Eidolon,King Diamond),最后Nick Menza再次回到乐队，回到乐队仅5天，就被Shawn Drover(Glen Drover兄弟，加拿大Eidolon的鼓手)顶替了，和Megadeth一起巡演的是Exodus,到达欧洲后，与Diamond Head和Dungeon一同巡演.
2005年6月28日，Capitol Records发行了Megadeth前8张专辑的精选，Greatest Hits: Back to the Start.
Gigantour
2005年夏天，Megadeth开始Gigantour,连同Dream Theater,Anthrax,Fear Factory,Dillinger Escape Plan,Nevermore,Life of Agony,Symphony X,Dry Kill Logic和Bobaflex.一起参加了各大摇滚节.10月份，Megadeth来到阿根廷，参加了Pepsi Music Rock Festival,卖光了门票，受到了极大的欢迎.
2006年3月21日，Capitol Records发行一张DVD,叫Arsenal of Megadeth,这张DVD里包括了Megadeth的一些现场，访谈以及MV.
United Abominations

Endgame
Megadeth乐队的新专辑《Endgame》发行于2009年9月15日，是迄今为止Megadeth最重、最快的一张专辑，市场普遍反响较好。上市一周以来在美国境内的销量已经达到了4万5千余张。这在实体唱片销量不景气，而且艺人们纷纷开始通过网路发行的当下已经是一个非常不俗的成绩。他们的上一张专辑《United Abominations》的首周销量是5万四千张，在《公告牌》前两百名的排名中名列第八。他们的专辑《The System Has Failed》也曾在《公告牌》取得过18名的成绩，而首周销量最高的专辑则是2001年发表的《The World Needs A Hero》，首周销量为6万1千张。

Endgame is the upcoming twelfth studio album by American heavy metal band Megadeth, set to be released on Roadrunner Records on September 15, 2009. It will be the first album featuring guitarist Chris Broderick, following Glen Drover's departure in 2008.
In 1996, after Dave Mustaine released his experimental side project, MD.45's The Craving, there were scattered reports about how the metal veteran was turning over a new leaf with a new band. But any circulating rumors of Megadeth's demise have been greatly exaggerated.

(1988.), Megadeth's third studio album Dave Mustaine and his band Megadeth were bought to critical acclaim with the release of their second album `Peace Sells...But Who's Buying' in 1986. Mustaine, the man who swore revenge on his former band Metallica had a created a force to be reckoned with and their second release showed they were very much a big part of the Bay Area thrash metal scen.
