武汉市洪山实验外国语中学前身是始建于2004年的“武汉外国语学校来自江南分校”，是一所九年一贯制学校；2009年由民办转为公办，更名为“武汉市洪山实验外国语学校”，隶属于洪山教育局，是洪山区首家实行人事代理制改革试点的学校；2022年9月按教育局总体部署实行集团化办学，成立“武汉市洪山实验外国语学校教育集团”，分设初中、小学两所学校；学校初中部整体搬迁李征判至卓刀泉南路与桂湖东路之间的新校区，成立武汉市洪山实验外国语中学，毗邻华中师范大学。
